Traditions. We all have them—from the songs you sang at camp every summer, to the foods your family eats each holiday. How do historians go about investigating the traditions of a particular community? How important is it to study a community’s traditions when trying to understand that community and make sense of its history? Can someone from outside the community ever truly understand a community’s traditions? This guide offer students and teachers an opportunity to explore these questions, and in doing so to meet state and local standards related to information literacy (21st Century Skills) and historical research skills (Standards in Historical Thinking).
